Valentine’s Day is less than a week away and I am sure most of the caring and thoughtful men have already purchased a special gift for their sweethearts. But if on this particular Valentine’s Day you are planning to give her something really special and, of course, of limited edition, I can help you.
It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver. Wednesday night, Mr. Biver hosted a private auction dinner with Hublot and African Wildlife Foundation at the American Museum of Natural History.
Passarella Death Squad presents its Spring/Summer 2010 collection of t-shirts and once again Danny Broddle and Emilie Albissier don’t disappoint. Keeping on track with the same trend that made the London based brand famous, provocative images of women are presented in abstract shapes.
Accessories are the elements that add a touch of personality and charisma to everyone’s look. Eyewear is gaining more and more relevance in the accessories industry and among people who wear glasses, as they are much more noticeable than a pair of shoes or a bag. Prism glasses are the perfect addition for all the aesthetic fanatics..
Living in a city where everyone wants something for nothing, friends are fair-weathered, and hype can overshadow talent--it’s hard to distinguish true gems from synthetic stones. Look no further for the real designer deal. There’s no shortage of talent in the Arulpragasam family. Lovers of music, art, and performance probably recognize the last name of artist/singer/songwriter/fashion designer M.I.A. Born Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, of Sri Lankan origin. Sister, Kali Arulgragasam, is no exception
Many of us will be carrying quite a few shopping bags in the next few weeks, and if we’re lucky, a few of those will contain something special that our loved ones will shriek in delight upon opening. (Actually, if we’re even luckier, many of those bags will just contain stuff for us to keep…but I digress). Ah, the holidays – that time of the year when credit cards are maxed out and eggnog becomes our milkshake of choice.
Growing up in a small town in Italy was a lot of fun, I used to go to school by bicycle and was always zipping around the neighbourhood meeting up with my friends to play soccer or volleyball outdoors. My bike was my inseparable friend that I could always count on.
What they say:
“Our silicone based eye shadow primer transforms any eye shadow into a perfectly blendable, color-drenched, intensified version of itself, then locks it down perfectly until you take it off.”
What we think:
Silicone living on top of your ribcage may not be such a great idea

When I arrived in Paris, I had no schedule to keep, save for a late-morning Wednesday appointment with the jewelry designer, Lydia Courteille. I was staying in the Parisian suburb of Saint Cloud and my friend, whom I was visiting, accompanied me to Ms. Courteille’s dark, velvety headquarters on Rue St. Honoré. Outside the shop, there was a large display window filled with Ms. Courteille’s creations, accompanied with a sign, in English, that said, Please do not photograph.
When my friends ask me if money was not a problem which watch would I buy? I immediately think of Ladoire, the most exclusive watch on the market. The real watch collectors know what I am talking about.
Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. is always included on the list of the best dressed rockers. Fulfilling his passion for elegance, he has teamed up with stylist and Confederacy store owner Ilaria Urbinati to create a striking collection of suits.
Glue. It is not just for sniffing anymore!
Remember when you were a kid and you'd smear that white glue on to the palm of our hand, wait for it to dry all clear then find some unsuspecting (usually younger) kid and peel it off like skin all the while screaming in mock pain hoping to make the other kid cry? No?
Twice a year many a woman begins the expedition into their closets to search for any survivors from the years past. Like sorting through the plunder of an avalanche, I dive through hangers and shelves calling out for any living garments from seasons before, usually to be met with the same shameful reality, why did I buy that? That ruffled blouse may have been your best friend last year, but this year it could make you look like a harlequin obsessed fashion victim. Let’s face it; we live in an ever evolving industry where something that is trendy one year may be a huge fashion faux pas for decades to come. As Heidi Klum says “One minute you’re in, and the next you’re out.”
Opening up my green velvet diary I realized some things about myself. First, I am not good at keeping my diary updated (my last entry is dated 3-25-2006) and second, I edit out details I am embarassed about later - such as past crushes and inebriated nights in my mid-twenties. Regardless I love the idea of looking back upon my memoirs with my grandchildren one day.
Like any good style-hound, your wardrobe gets constant attention and every piece is on-trend…but what about your residence? The Venice Film Festival has been suffering from a lack of ‘cool’ in recent years. The trouble is not the location, the Lido is a smart island close to the legendary St Mark’s Square, or the weather, it’s pretty much blue skies, but that in these tight times it’s just too expensive, and you know it cost a lot when Hollywood studios think twice about coming.
You know your music is pretty serious when Kurt Cobain personally writes you a letter and publicly requests a reunion. You know it’s a damn shame your band broke up when Beck pays tribute with a single off his album, and chooses a name that loosely alludes to your band's name. That is ridiculously extraordinary. Os Mutantes, pronounced {uz mu ta chees} meaning “The Mutants,” is just that, an extra ordinary Brazilian band from out of this world. All I can say is, "Mutants, take me to your leader."
If at night you find yourself fumbling to switch on the lamp for a quick trip to the bathroom and the lamp is designed by Daniel Loves Objects, you may think you are dreaming in a futuristic world. I learned about DJ Spinna one day in '93 or '94, sitting at my desk at Def American Recordings going through boxes of submitted demo tapes, most of them I would erase and add to my blank cassette supply. Very few would be considered and put on rotation in my ride, one of those was a 5-song demo from a group out of New York City called The Jigmastas
